in the past few years, but it isn't a replacement for a
programming language. Can you access a DB from XSL? Can you
read/write to/from stdin/out? Can you build modular pieces
of code for reuse?

I agree 100%. I've learned from generating xml from rpg then using xsl to create letters in pdf format. We have had lots of arguments about where rpg should stop and where xsl should take over. For example, rpg spits out xml in an order that isn't right for processing, so xsl does the sorting, etc. Its often much more difficult than rpg.

For my web site, I would envisage creating the xml in the format that is easiest for me to process in xsl. You are probably thinking way ahead of me and realising that I will have a job to do anything complicated. I realise that my site will probably stay very simple at first, but at least it will be fun. I hate sitting down with php and finding I'm having to look up the syntax for every word as I don't use it enough to remember it. With XSL I am already up and running.

Isn't this a bit like the argument of choosing CGIDEV because of one's existing rpg skills even though CGIDEV is not the best solution? Now if I could use CGIDEV on my home laptop, then I'd forget all about XSL :-)

Thought : with php, I can declare a CSS stylesheet, then generate html and that stylesheet will be applied. Can I not just declare a XSL file, then generate xml instead from within the php?
