The quick unzip to the IFS and then start command resulted in an error:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/enterprise/admin/cli/AsadminMain

I need to spend some time researching it but don't have time at the moment. A quick look at the gem folder shows a different version of Glassfish, perhaps tweaked for JRuby.

A gem is just a deployment file, like a .war or .ear that contains the needed code and libraries to run a Ruby app or plugin. The great feature of Gems is that there is a known repository of Gems for Ruby and so all you have to do is run:

JRuby -S gem install glassfish

And it will go out, find the latest version and either install it or update it. Simple, easy to do, which is why I was running it as part of my JRuby demo site.

I just don't have time to run down the issues at the moment. If you do get it going, let me know. If I get a chance to figure out my issue and get it going, I'll post back.

I remember seeing that when it was discussed last month. I tried to check it
out, but I didn't know what Gem was and was too embarrassed to ask.

Let me know how it goes. I'm curious. I might try it this weekend as well.

I do have Glassfish running as a Gem plugin to my JRuby app on an i (IBM

I can't imagine that the "full" version is that difficult to implement
(vs the gem). Download size is approximately the same so I think the
gem plugin for JRuby just has a ruby language wrapper to invoke the server.

I am downloading the full version right now but I'll be surprised if it
doesn't work.
