I have been applying ptf's all afternoon, but no success as of yet.

To me though, it sounds like you are missing some required PTFs.

we upgraded to 6.1 on Sunday.

we FAILED to test our cgi programs till this morning, and find
that we are getting a "INTERNAL SERVER ERROR" page in the browser,
and the following errors in our web log:
