Groovy on Grails on one hand, and a combination of JSF, J2EE
and IceFaces on the other hand.

Well, Grails is geared toward generating a lot of MVC scaffolding quickly for database maintenance. Whether that's good or not depends on how well you like their model. To me, it seems somewhat primitive. But your colleague could be cranking out a lot of applications while you're left bit twiddling with low-level J2EE interfaces.

You said JSF "and" IceFaces. Did you mean JSF "or" IceFaces? It seems to me that most folks would go with one or the other. Traditional page at a time vs. rich client.

Of course, no matter how you try to limit your investigation of Web technologies, experience says you'll keep adding new things to look at - especially when dealing with J2EE and related technologies.

Nathan.
