From: Nathan Andelin
I was pleased to discover window.setInterval() ...

As it turned out, window.setTimeout() worked better than window.setInterval(), to only show an Alert if there isn't one already on the screen.

What if the user left the calendar open, and an Alert came up, but the user wasn't there to see it. What if they got run over by a school bus on their way to work? What if they just fainted when they saw an AS/400 with a graphical user interface?

setTimout("timer()", 30000);

function timer() {

if showAlert(evt)
alert(evt.description);

// if they respond to alert then set new timeout

setTimeout("timer()",30000);

}
