Um, I don't know how this isn't a true representation of either platform
being used with "i".

It's probably not an apples to apples, point by point comparison, but
Java and .Net are two of the most sought after dev environments for the
System "i" for modernization.

Joe and I will be providing live hands on experience with both
platforms. The takeaways being real examples to jump start in-house
development and give attendees a chance to work with both environments
for a day.

If this was truly to be just a panel of experts blathering at each other
for two days I don't think even I would find it interesting. Hands on
lab experience as we're providing is definitely the way to go :-)

Your pessimism truly amazes me since you claim to be such a true "i"
evangelist.

Show some support instead of negativity. We're offering "i" education.

Have you ever heard the term "cup half full" ?

From your responses I take it you wouldn't be the neutral moderator :-)

Richard,

Unless you are demonstrating a tool that generates another language, you
are
not comparing apples.

The problem is that this is not a true representation of either
"language".
This is simply a vehicle that pits one person's viewpoint against
another.
If it were truly a language comparison, or face-off, you would have
multiple
Java experts against multiple .Net experts. And, of course, you would
have
added PHP <http://archive.midrange.com/web400/200808/msg00280.html> and
RPG and even COBOL.

It is not Java <http://archive.midrange.com/web400/200808/msg00280.html>
vs. .Net, no matter how you spin it. It is EGL being sold to
the masses (at their expense) on one day, and you offering ways to use
.Net
with i. One is proven, one is not. Other than the fact that your
'opponent'
has already claimed that EGL is the winner all over this forum, you
could
even win the "face off".

My suggestion would be to have an ACTUAL face-off. Why don't we invite
you,
Mr. EGL and Mike Pavlak to be on an iSociety Fireside chat? We can
invite
questions from the chat audience, and each of you can offer their
'solution'
as the answer to each question - EGL, .Net and PHP. And, I am sure we
can
find a neutral moderator....
