Suddenly there's not that many. Even though they have Windows desktops,
they won't use Windows to run their business.
<<
Maybe so. Just for the record. I don't love Windows either. It's just
currently a necessary evil to run .Net apps :-)
And of course MS Outlook :-)
Once I get a handle on how good MONO is, that may be the platform of
choice for .Net web apps and services. Too soon to tell.
BTW: The Mainsoft guys wrote the VB compiler for Mono, so Romania may
not be as bad as you think if that's what you were referring to... :-)
Java is memory and CPU intensive. If you have the memory and CPU
dedicated to the JVM, Java runs just as fast on the i as anywhere else.
<<
Yeah, tell that to the Jasper Reports engine :-)
Runs 10 times faster on Windows connected to "i" rather than running
native.
Bummer but true.
And there are people like you, Richard, who can make the platform do
wonders.
<<
Stop, flattery will get you everywhere :-)
Personally, I don't like using Java for applications at all. We've
already got the best business language in the world right on the i -
it's called RPG. EGL is simply the fastest way to build industry
standard user interfaces to RPG business logic.
<<
Amen brother. I love RPG too, but it can't be used for everything.
Java on "i" is now my second love. There's some amazing things you can
do natively with Java when it comes to writing communications to other
platforms, generating PDF, etc......
And since when is Legacy a bad word?
<<
It's not really. I think in the case of technology everything is legacy
once it's more than a year old. :-)
You and I are WAAAAAAY past legacy :-)
