Folks, I think you are talking about the IceBreak Application Server here. It already includes or will include everything you are talking about. You write RPG program and use an XHTML file as the user interface. That's it.
In reference to your wish list, IceBreak is an application server that powers a number of frameworks, applications and tools. It includes a generic Web 2.0 open source and free framework based on extJS and an open source and free framework called Inspire for enabling System i queries in XML and HTML directly to the Web. It also powers a number of 3rd party products including a low cost CMS system, document portals, DB-Proxies, and so on. It has built in support for XML, SOA/SOAP web-services, TAPI for PABX applications.
IceBreak is also a tool to teach new RPG developers how the system i works and how you can enhance ancient code with today's technology. With IceBreak, new developers can concentrate on RPG and not have to worry about other issues getting in the way.
Yes, the IceBreak server core has a price tag and is not open source, but the frameworks are open and free. If you are interested, an opportunity does exist to contribute to IceBreak and the frameworks.
