If you are a pro and have been coding Web projects for years, AJAX may not
be that difficult to deal with.

But Charles is new to Web development.  He is asking for advice on how to
get going with a basic application, for which AJAX is obviously overkill.  

If he using RPG for development, he will rarely see these "white pages" you
are referring to.  You can validate 1000's of records with RPG, and still
not see any delays or "white pages".

If he does succeed with making an AJAX app work, it will then be more
difficult for him and his coworkers to maintain the app, because AJAX is an
advanced concept.  

So AJAX will end up adding a lot of complexity (in this case) -- and no real
benefit.

Most iSeries shops are just like Charles ... starting out ... they are new
to making Web apps.  To them, AJAX adds complexity that IS hard to deal with
:-)  If there is a real benefit to justify that complexity, then they should
go for it ... but they shouldn't use AJAX just because it's the "hot thing
to do right now".
