Off the iSeries doing what? Java? Exactly. That is what IBM wants you to do.
What happens though is that a lot of people are going the .NET route because
you can get a hello world app faster, but in the end it isn't the same as
sticking with IBM and Java.

The writing has been on the wall for CGIDEV2 since its inception. If we
choose not to read the writing can we blame IBM for that?

This doesn't make sense to me. I've built an entire large scale application
around CGIDEV2 and it's that service program and their updates that keeps my
company on the iSeries. To that end we're about to purchase both a new 550
and a new 520. If CGIDEV2 wasn't around (and the subsequent derivatives by
Bob Cozzi and Brad Stone, we would have been off the iSeries year ago.

Just in case you haven't seen the news yet. IBM have (partially) pulled the
plug on the Easy400 web site - home of CGIDEV2.

Giovanni is continuing the tutorials, and distribution of all the other
utilities from his new site (www.easy400.net) but IBM have apparently
refused to allow him to distribute CGIDEV2. Goodness knows why. The
license statement on the web site clearly says you can distribute derivative
works but ... they say no.

On IBM's own site the download is still available, but it is clearly marked
as "frozen".

Not a good day for the future of the iSeries. If some idiot at IBM thinks
this will make scores of people rush to WebSphere - well boy are they in for
a shock! Just sit back now and wait for ASNA's advertisements pointing out
to people that IBM is obviously abandoning RPGers.
