Is the page static (or semi-static)? If so you could just read in the entire
contents of the page and store it (stream file or DB), then an hour later
read the entire contents of the page comparing it to the content of an hour
ago.

If you are looking to do this from RPG you can use GETURI from bvstools.com
or HTTPAPI from scottklement.com

If you are going to use Java then have a look at the different socket API's
provided in the base JDK (at least it is in the base JDK of 1.4 from what I
remember).

Subject: [WEB400] Is there a way that I can tell if a web page on anotherweb
site has changed.

Hello,

I am using socket methods to make http requests to certain web sites
every hour and I want to alert a user if the web page on another site
changes. Can anyone tell me an easy way to do this. One thing I
thought of was to save the http results that the site sends me back in
two separate files and compare the two but I was hoping there is an
easier way.

Thank you.
