Sorry I dont know enough about this to know what i need to do to make
it work for the DB2 connection

And @filter is ?  A parameter? A literal? A variable in your program?

Seems to me that you'd need a prepared statement so you can pass the 
parameter OR you need some code that generates the SQL string and 
resolves the parameter into and actual value first.
