There is the C language runtime function srand and rand that will do what you want, or you can call the OS/400 APIs that do the same thing (can't remember their names off the top of my head). But basically you start out with some "known" value and seed the random number routine (srand or the API). Then you call the random number generator (rand or the API) and it will create a random number for you. You then use that random number to retrieve the next random number, and so on. It isn't random, but it will be unique. >>> mskvarenina@usa.net 01/16/03 08:59AM >>> I need to generate a pseudo-random character string to be used as a session key in my browser applications. Has anyone used a hashing method in RPG to generate a pseudo-random number and if so, could you please post it. _______________________________________________ This is the Web Enabling the AS400 / iSeries (WEB400) mailing list To post a message email: WEB400@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/web400 or email: WEB400-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/web400.
