Glad I could help.  I only get to do the cgi thing on a very part-time
basis, so it's good to get back into it every now and then to keep it fresh
in my mind.

the suggestion that Joe Lee offered was a good one too.  In his case, your
updatecost program would do the window.location
="/cgi-bin/iteminq?SUB=/%SubCat%/" directly (outputing a web page with
nothing but that line inside javascript tags)
