Why did Ben Kenobi die at the end of Star Wars? He was a powerful Jedi Knight.... But I digress.... In this link: <http://www.traces-cl.com/feb02/inmiddle.html>, and in fact in the book, we aren't explicitly told that Gandalf dies in the Fellowship. That's our (and Frodo's, etc) assumption. When Gandalf and company were on the mountain pass, Saruman's soliloquy about Gandalf ("You know what lies in the depths of Moria...") tells us that Gandalf must face the Bal-rac (?) and eliminate that demon once and for all. Don't worry, Gandalf is plenty powerful. But like in the Star Wars universe, good is usually less flashy than evil. Nuff said, we're officially off topic. Thanks! Not to mention if Jon is nitpicking about just that, musta done everything else ok. :) Just like to work with those who aren't on V6R2 today as a lot of writers/consultants/speakers do. That weeds out 75% of your audience! And after watching Lord of the Rings... it is even better... but man, for a wizard, Gandolf sure had zero powers... he didn't do squat and couldn't levitate out of the "shadow" pit? Cmon... I never played D&D but I know a wizard is close to a Jedi...HA!
