OK, I know I'm going to regret this, but...

Given this thread (and others like it on Midrange and Ignite) can someone
please explain to me again why having one iSeries box (you know the one that
never crashes) as my web server is better than a farm of cheap Linux or
Windows Intel boxes serving your web?

This isn't the first time (more like 10+) that people have complained about
the stability of the iSeries as a web server. Why do people keep using it?
Aren't Bob, Bleddyn, David, Andrew, etc. supposed to be the experts at this?
If they have such a problem, what't up?

I love the stability of the iSeries for database and green screen, but I
must say that I think web serving is best left to web servers that have
millions of installations.

-Walden

PS. Andrew, your just the lucky post I'm replying to, my comments apply to
the entire thread.

This is a common problem with HTTP server classic (I don't know if it
happens on Apache) on an AS/400...

The 400 takes connections and then instead of answering, it starts failing,
and instead of answering slowly - it craps out...

The pattern is CPU usage is THROUGH the roof while the world creams us, then
CPU usage drops to almost nothing, while the system TCP/IP connections rise
un-answered. It then (after about 2 minutes or so) comes back to life, but
it's not the same - you then END & restart the server and it works again.

This was something I noticed with a HIGH volume hitting fast and furious.

Strange thing is the site is up, and accepting connections. However it
doesn't respond. Anyone know (remember) what machine type it was running?

The Web site www.rpgenerationx.com seems to be unavailable, lately. Anybody
know what happened to it?
