I am trying to send an e-mail via a Servlet. I am using the
"com.oreilly.servlet" package (available for download at
http://www.servlets.com/cos/index.html). It has a class called
"MailMessage" that should automate this process. I am receiving the
following error from the servlet:

java.io.IOException: Unexpected reply to command: MAIL FROM: : 501 Syntax
error. Special characters only permitted with escape character.

Here is the code that produces the e-mail:

MailMessage mail = new MailMessage( "localhost" );
mail.from( "VamaNet" );
mail.to( "joelcochran@alumni.jmu.edu" );
mail.setSubject( "Your VamaNet Subscription" );
PrintStream mailText = mail.getPrintStream();
mailText.println( "Some message." );
mail.sendAndClose();

Where is the special character in the MAIL FROM parameter???

I am having a separate problem with my mail server (as in messages get sent
but never received) but since this one isn't even getting sent I'm sure that
isn't related...

TIA,
