David, If you don't have to go back too far, you could use a scrollable table that stores your check box elements. I can give you an example if it would help. The biggest problems are that it requires two tables, one for the header and one for the detail. It is also easier if you don't mind that the header does not cover the scroll slider because the width of the scroll slider can differ between operating systems and resolutions.
