Mel, you're correct and we do address translation here also which is a problem. I there a means of obtaining the MAC address? If not can you propose a solution to being able to identify a particular client PC anywhere on our network? We are building a time and attendance application and the timeclock application in RPGCGI and we need a means of identifying each PC so we can build things like location lockout (you can't punch in/out from a particular location), or simply being able to tell which PC a user punched in/out at. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mel Rothman" <mel@rothmanweb.com> To: <web400@midrange.com> Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2002 1:47 PM Subject: Re: [WEB400] Obtaining IP address of client using CGIDEV2 > Use the getenv subprocedure to retrieve the REMOTE_ADDR environment variable. > > Note that many users access the web through proxy servers, socks servers, or > firewall hardware or software that does network address translation, so you > often won't be getting the user's real i.p. address. > > > Mel Rothman, CGIDEV2 Author > IBM eServer Custom Technology Center (CTC), Rochester, Minnesota > http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/service/ctc/ > http://www.easy400.ibm.it/en > > > > Michael Skvarenina wrote: > > > > Is there a way to obtain the client's IP address using CGIDEV2? > _______________________________________________ > This is the Web Enabling the AS400 / iSeries (WEB400) mailing list > To post a message email: WEB400@midrange.com > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, > visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/web400 > or email: WEB400-request@midrange.com > Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives > at http://archive.midrange.com/web400. > > > >
