I've seen the cvttagopt call before, but I haven't needed it yet in my
applications (generally output only). Aaron's question specifically asked
about the "selected" option without dynamic generation. A piece of code has
to touch something, I had my example touch as little as possible.

To answer the original question (can option tags have their selected status
set without dynamic generation): It depends. Yes, if you follow my example,
but as Mel says, it involves a lot of coding. No, if you want reduced
program and template size. I would consider Mel's cvttagopt if you're
generating the page dynamically anyway.

I used to do it that way too.  It involved a lot of coding and my HTML
editor's checking routine didn't like the substitution variable inside the
option tag.  Also, each option tag had to be coded in the HTML in the
template.

This is what led me to write CrtTagOpt.
