Hi,

Anytime the outline doesn't finish, it generally means an issue in the RPG Model generation.

Start by looking if any Terminating Parser errors exist. You are looking for a big red X. You can cycle through the annotations using the 'next Annotation' button (or press control key and . character).

Also, looking into the meta data log file may show parsing errors.

You are searching for code that contains squiggles underneath.

Once you find any offending code, please send IBM Support an example so we can fix the Model Generation.

You can also comment out code that contains the parse error, to be sure it's the only offending code.

Also, if the code in question uses boolean(), you could try to uncheck the 'Use the Enhanced SQL Formatter' in preferences. (Search SQL in preferences, under ILE RPG Free-form SQL Format -> Use the Enhanced SQL Formatter.) The ACS team that supplies us that formatter has opened an APAR against the 7.5 Boolean() code.

Thanks!

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Outline not outlining/"Formatting failed: no model available"

I have a couple of SQLRPGLE programs that won't outline (even though they compile and execute without error). Ctrl+Shift+F is broken as well. Other programs in the same style Outline and reformat without issue.

Outlining: Ctrl+Shift+F5 doesn't do anything--the Outline window remains empty. The usual parsing job does not execute when these source members are loaded.

Both RDI's (9.8.0.1 (Win10) and 9.8.0.2 (Win 11)) are afflicted. Java and Windows 10/11 updates are current. V7R5. "Update the Outline view when text is changed" is checked. No funny stuff--no weird characters or weird object names, just static SQL, /COPY statements, binding directory--in others, just like 2,000 other programs in my library.

Thank you for your suggestions!
