This process is a million times easier than the former method .

The main thing I believe is lost is putting the software in a directory just under the root, (many time the “C” drive but not always) to keep away from windows misbegotten attempts at protecting the environment and as you point out, keeping the path name shorter.

To those that want to expand IBM i object name size, you might want to keep the last point in mind. The environment variables are only so big.

What I did was the following:

A folder on the PC with a really short path name should be setup. I
created C:/RDI9.8

The product zip file should be extracted right under this folder creating
the product folder "IBM Rational Developer for I". If not many paths for
objects would be too long and objects dropped.

The activation zip file should also be extracted right under this folder
creating the folder "RDI_Act_Kit_9.8_ML" this is where the zip file
"RDi_9.8_RPGCOBOLTools_AU_Lic_Act_Kit_P2.zip" which is used for activation
of license lives

When launching RDI to activate the license I chose "Run as administrator"
just in case something made it a good idea to do so.

I then followed the instructions in the video
https://youtu.be/XE5ZObicsAQ?si=D9GZRrPkAio7gLRW

And finally after all this time I have a permanent license

But why on earth does it have to be so complex???

Happy to have finally made it working - without the nag screen.
