There is an extension called Overtype. It will allow you to toggle Cmd+Shift+I modes.

Anyone know how to change a MAC using VSCode into overwrite vs. insert mode when editing code?
I’ve tried Dr. Google and basically it seems I’m a troglodyte for wanting to consider it……. (Maybe true but still)
