'x', Roger, David,

I am not familiar at all with the tools mentioned. I've heard of the license server, but have no idea whether we are using one or not. Since developers download the pek.jar file to their local drive, I presume that we're not using a license server. But that is the "black box" I referenced in my OP. The person who "owned" the IBM i and associated software tools is no longer with the company, so no one has a handle on this. Since I got the ball rolling on upgrading RDi to v9.8, I've become sort of the RDi point person.

Just to be clear to everyone, we are certain that we have a lot more licenses than we are using, and the company obviously would like to reduce unnecessary costs.

We're going through an audit and I, a new contractor at this company, have been asked to determine all the users that have RDi installed. I don't know what kind of license we have, although I'm told we have 70 of them. We have reason to believe that we are not using anywhere near that number.

Are you running a local license server?

If so, then that server should be able to tell you how many licenses are in use.

Alternatively, determine the host name of the external license server and ask your network team to identify which workstations are connecting to it.

I'm riding a in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure to raise money for diabetes research, education, advocacy, and awareness. You can make a tax deductible donation to my ride by visiting https://mideml.diabetessucks.net/. My goal is $7000 but any amount is appreciated.

You can see where my donations come from by visiting my interactive donation map ... https://mideml.diabetessucks.net/map (it's a geeky thing).

I may have diabetes, but diabetes doesn't have me!
