If it was made clear to the proper authorities that they too would have to be woken up in the middle of the night to grant the authority to help get production going again, would that introduce a level of reasonableness? Maybe not...

Thoughts:

1) In a prior job we had a command that swapped our profile to a more elevated one restricted us to a set of tools for debugging. Mostly worked, but I did manage to easily escape it. For honesty, I reported how I did it, twice, but it was never fixed.

2) In a more recent job, we had *allobj profiles, but we also had a system that logged all changes made by that profile and the developer, the Programming Manager and the IT VP had to sign off on the report produced from the changes. That seemed to satisfy the auditors who could pull up copies of the report and the signatures. Database changes were found from journal entries, programming changes from the Aldon CMS.

As someone said "you have to trust someone" but it's probably better to have two sets of eyes doing the approval,

I wish you luck.

Sam
