Hello everyone! I was just trying to do something I thought would be
simple. As part of my foray into MKDocs (which rocks big time, by the
way), I have been running KiTTY as an SSH client and everything works
fine. I use RDi to edit my MKDocs source (just a bunch of text files in
the IFS) and then I use KiTTY to run the MKDocs build command and then I
run a green screen CPY command to move the objects from the MKDocs
target to my Apache server instance. All is well, but I wanted to try
to stay inside of RDi for everything. For the 5250 session, that was
easy; I right click on the connection and take the Host Connection
Emulator option. Boom, up comes a 5250 session. But then I try to do
the same thing for Launch Shell, I get an error:
Connection to QShell server timed out.
Check firewall and open ports 2850, 2851 and 2852.
Since I'm on a VPN, I don't know why I'd have ports disabled, so I tried
Verify Connection, and it told me the callback to RSE daemon failed,
because the callback both to my IP address on port 4301 and to my fully
qualified PC name both failed. So before I go back to my operations
folks, I just wondered if someone could tell me what these errors might
mean. I think it's saying that the IBM i can't see my PC, but is that
necessary to start an SSH session? As noted, KiTTY works.
And also, in the interests of trying to find another solution to the
issue, does anyone know of a different SSH client plugin that works in
RDi? The last one I tried (Remote System Explorer) didn't like my RDi
configuration but happily told me it would uninstall the Software
Development Platform if I so desired. That would be less than optimal,
so I'm on the lookout for another SSH client.
At the end of the day, using KiTTY is fine. I just was looking for a
way to do everything from RDi.
