Hi Brian

I think that wording is wrong - maybe it means the first year, because that's how it has worked for us for the last 7 years - we pay only maintenance (c.20%) every year.

And be sure to check into the trade-up from ADTS - I think our initial cost has been in mid 800s - check with your BP, there's a special code for it. It's been mentioned several times in these lists.

Regards
Vern

I started a new thread on this, Jon because IBM's website suggests the cost /IS/ now 1,180 USD per year!

Check out Licence Type: Authorised User. Clearly states "Unit price: $1,180.00 USD per license per year"

I've gone as far as the Checkout and I get:

"IBM Rational Developer for i — IBM Rational Developer for i
License Type: Authorized User
1 license
Billing term: Annual
Subscription Term: 12 months
$1,180.00 USD per year"

Which would lead one to assume the cost /is/ 1,180 USD every year. IMHO, either very poor wording, (putting folk off) or a change in T&C's, (putting folk off). Hopefully I'll be corrected.

Brian.

I'd find it hard to justify $1,000 a year too - but it doesn't cost that much.

Initial cost is around $1,200 (I bought mine a long time ago) and I pay about $250 a year for the maintenance.  That's $s out of my pocket and worth every cent - particularly since it is tax deducible.

I sometimes still use WDSC 7.0.  As a consultant, most of the time I have to use what is provided by the client because it is their laptop and most of the time that is no IDE at all. As long as SEU exists, that is good enough. ☹

In the rare cases where I find a client that will let me use my own laptop, I use WDSC because I already have it.  I would like to upgrade to RDi but I just can't justify the $1,000 a year for the little bit that I would get to use it which for the past two years would have been "not at all".
