I have not been able to make the problem happen so far.

What version of IBM i are you running on and what compile or compile and
bind commands are you using?

I can't say I often double click anything, so I tried Ken's sample on
7.3 TR5, RDi 9.6.0.5 and I can select every single variable via
double-click without issue. CRTBNDRPG PGM(BUCK/KEN)
SRCFILE(BUCK/QRPGLESRC) SRCMBR(KEN) REPLACE(*YES) OPTION(*EVENTF)
DBGVIEW(*SOURCE)

I tried 4 scenarios:
1) Single step, and at each line, double-click every variable
2) Single step, and at each line, Alt-tab away from the debugger,
Alt-tab back and try to double-click every variable
3) Set a breakpoint inside the FOR loop, when stopped, double-click
every variable
4) Set a breakpoint inside the FOR loop, when stopped, Alt-tab away and
back, then double click every variable
