Re: RDI 9.6.0.5 and JavaScript editor

I, too, added the http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.6/ to my available software sites and did not see Programming Languages.I added http://download.eclipse.org/releases/neon/ and did not see Programming Languages. I found Eclipse IDE for Javascript and Web Developers. I tried installing that option, but I the install gets about halfway and stalls (no error message, but never completes).
I have RDi 9.6.0.5

Hi Arco,

If you have the Javascript plugin for Neon loaded, you should see the JavaScript preferences in the list of main preferences somewhere after the "> Java" preferences. There are Editor preferences located under the

JavaScript

    > Appearance,
    > Code Style,
    >  Debug
    > Editor
    > Include Path
        Runtimes
    > Validator

The Eclipse paradigm is to place preferenced under their own Language specific level, and offer soft links to other preferences that are related or override them.

Hmm, this is getting strange.

I had no success on the given update site, no "Programming Languages"
was appearing, so I googled around and changed the update site url to http://download.eclipse.org/releases/neon/
There was a "Programming Languages" section, and I discovered that the "Javascript Development Tools" already were installed.
However the option for a file association with Javascript is not appearing anywhere. Strange. This is a fresh install, fresh workspace, and only plugins for Subclipse, Beyond Compare and iSphere beta installed.
I'll dig further....

Complete the following steps in Eclipse to get plugins for JavaScript files:

1.) Open Eclipse -> Go to "Help" -> "Install New Software"
2.) Select the repository for your version of Eclipse, which is Neon.
    So I selected http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.6/
3.) Expand "Programming Languages" -> Check the box next to "JavaScript Development Tools"
4.) Click "Next" -> "Next" -> Accept the Terms of the License Agreement -> "Finish"
5.) Wait for the software to install, then restart Eclipse (by
clicking "Yes" button at pop up window)
6.) Once Eclipse has restarted, open "Window" -> "Preferences" ->
Expand "General" and "Editors" -> Click "File Associations" -> Add
".js" to the "File types:" list, if it is not already there
7.) In the same "File Associations" dialog, click "Add" in the
"Associated editors:" section
8.) Select "Internal editors" radio at the top
9.) Select "JavaScript Viewer". Click "OK" -> "OK"

PS. I happen to use NotePad++ for JavaScript files a lot. It is my favorite programmer text tool for windows. But, occasionally, I also use the Eclipse Neon JavaScript editor also.

Hi,

I have just installed 9.6.0.5 on a fresh computer, and noticed that I was not able to edit a .js javascript file in RDI. With my previous installations I was able to edit javascript files, however I'm not sure whether that was possible through a third party plugin. Memory is failing me here.

Anybody knowing if this should be possible in the standard installation of RDI? And if not, what are others using as javascript plugin for RDI?
