Hi Craig,

Sorry for the late reply. I do not know why the posting I sent yesterday
did not make it to the list.

iSphere does not reference any dependency starting with ID
"com.ibm.debug.*". Therefore I do not believe, that iSphere is
responsible for the update problems. I assume that iSphere is affected
by the problem rather than causing it.

What happens when you try to update your RDi with the IBM Installation
Manager? Does it find any updates for RDi? Does it show any errors?

By the way, the most reliable way to update iSphere is starting RDi with
Administrator privileges and using a local update site. You can download
the update site as a zip file from SourceForge. You do not need to unzip
the file. Just add it as an archived update site to the list of
available update sites.

I still consider setting up my own update server but did not yet made a
final decision. Obviously using SourceForge as an update site is no fun.

Regards,

Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your reply. ( And for your excellent plugin )

On the backup machine, the install ( not re-install ) which eventually
worked, I initially tried http://isphere.sourceforge.net/eclipse/rdi8.0/ which
failed with some complaint about the repository ( sorry can't remember the
exact error ) and this looked like the error that has been documented when
you have installed in the default location. But I have my shortcut for RDi
set up to run under Admin, which is supposed to fix that problem but it
didn't in my case.

I remembered this post from when I originally installed iSphere on my main
machine and saw that Dave Clark had listed
http://master.dl.sourceforge.net/project/isphere/eclipse/rdi8.0/ as the
address to use.
So I used that on the backup machine and it worked fine.
I installed it from RDI from the menu via Help | Install New Software and
then pasting the Dave Clark url into the Work with box. I then selected all
components except the last ( 5250 ) one.
This worked fine.

When I tried to repeat that process on my main machine, I got the error
described.

I tried again this morning to see if I can find more information about the
exact dependency.
The first two times I tried it, came back with some "couldn't find
repository" error but I just tried again and it ran as before.

So in answer to your question, I think that since I posted that specific
url into the Work with field on the Available Software screen that I've
used a specific update site?

The error detail I get is:
Will be upgraded/downgraded: NI1 Fragment
Version: 1.3.0v20160105_1939
Id: com.ibm.debug.pdt.team.common.nl1

I tried the default option for alternate solutions which was: Update my
installation to be compatible with the items being installed.

This gave me a screen that says: "NI1 Fragment" cannot be fully uninstalled
because other installed software requires it. The parts that are not
required will be uninstalled.

I've cancelled back out of it now because com.ibm.debug.pdt.team.common.nl1
sounds like it might be something I need?

best regards,
Craig

Craig,

Usually there is no need for uninstalling an old version of iSphere
before updating to the latest one. But honestly I do not always
understand the various problems reported here.

"NI1 Fragment" does not tell me anything, because iSphere does not use
fragments. Hence I assume that "NI1 Fragment" is related to a different
plug-in but not iSphere.

Actually the update dialog should exactly describe the dependency that
could not be matched.

Did you explicitly select the iSphere update site or did you select
"--All available Sites--" when trying to install the latest iSphere update?

Hi All,

I recently put a copy of RDi 9.6.0.3 onto my backup machine and installed
iSphere without problems once I used the url kindly provided by Dave:
http://master.dl.sourceforge.net/project/isphere/eclipse/rdi8.0/

This has successfully installed iSphere 3.4.0.r on to that machine.

I'm still running 9.6.0.1 on my main machine and it has version 3.2.3.r
of
iSphere on it.

When I tried adding the latest version on this machine via the Help |
Install New Software option (I hadn't removed the old version of iSphere
first) I had some errors.

Early in the install process an information message comes up saying:
"Cannot Perform operation. Computing alternate solutions... "

And then it eventually gives me an "Install Remediation Page" in which it
is complaining about "NI1 Fragment"

I'm not sure if this is because I didn't uninstall the previous version
of
iSphere first.
Or if iSphere 3.4.0.r requires RDi 9.6.0.3
Or some other reason.

Has anyone else encountered something like this?

For now I just hit cancel to leave the old version of iSphere running as
I
can't really afford any downtime at the moment.

thanks kindly,
Craig

In 9.6, I tried Help/Install New Software and put in this site:
https://
isphere.sourceforge.net

Should be this site for the automated install.

http://master.dl.sourceforge.net/project/isphere/eclipse/rdi8.0/

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
