Greg

I'm pretty sure that RDi does not have its own JavaScript editor - I can't say that for certain, but RDi inherits all kinds of things from Eclipse, including things like an XML Editor, etc.

So I put a JS file in my home directory on the i - then I used the "JavaScript Editor" that came up in the "Open with..." list - I made a change to a comment, then pressed Ctrl-S. This saved it back to my home directory on the i.

Save As"..." __does__ show the local copy, which kind of makes sense. So I think "Save As..." is not the best way to save things when they have come __from__ an IBM i.

I don't know about saving something you have pulled from some other source, then try to save to the IFS - I think I could get around difficulties in either of a couple ways:

1. Create a new file in the IFS of the type or using the extension you want, then open the source JS and copy its contents to the IFS file
2. Locate the source JS in your local file system and copy/paste it into the IFS, then edit from there

I don't remember if you had this issue when editing from the IFS - the Save As... does seem it should know where the original came from and save the copy back to it, but I'm not sure that happens - if not, an RFE is in order - or a PMR, if you think this is a bug.

Vern

Vern & David,

I have no idea. I have not purposely installed a JS editor on my machine (other than Notepad++). I have the RPG/Cobol version of RDi only - I just happened to see the JavaScript Editor option in the "Open With" dialog.

Are you saying this is NOT part of RDi?

Thanks
Greg

Hi Greg

Just to press a bit further - is the JavaScript Editor native to RDi, or is it an external editor. Even an external editor will open in a tab in RDi, so this might not be clear.

As far the "save-as" - it does point to the RemoteSystems temp files.

Greg

I've seen where a text file is edited with TextPad, since that's the associated one now - it edited the one in the workspace and did not push it back up - if I use the built-in RDi text editor, it DOES update the file in the IFS.

I have not looked for a way to make it work with external editors like the way this did - I'm pretty certain I missed something along the way.

Cheers

So I edited a javascript file in RDi by navigating to a directory on the IFS. I then saved it using a different file name. But it wasn't actually there... The file only existed in my RDi Workspace.

Is this by design?
