Matt,
I spoke too soon! My RDI 9.6.0.2 has gone nuts on a restart to my old work-space. I was trying to restart in my old workspace, to Import/Export my settings.
And then it gives me a diaglog that "Saving Workbench State". And has been locked up for the last 10 plus minutes...
My Java for RDI 9.6.0.2 is using 95.1 of the CPU% NON-STOP! Sad!
... (Last partition only...)
In my dos window of the start, I have this:

Sadly, I am going back to RDI 9.6.0.0 with no service pack. At least it does not LOCK-UP!

I have been noticing the memory usage problem whenever the syntax parser activates, so like for every key stroke I type, even in comments or array space. I can make it over use memory by pressing space bar or entry key in an array space zone even with Auto Syntax checking turned off.
By the way RDi has shut down 4 times today, three on its own and one by me. I guess am going to need to get a new workspace also.

Wow, my "high-priority" project is on hold...
So, I went back to RDi 9.6.0.2 with a BRAND-NEW work place trying to duplicate issues to create those memory leak issues. It appears to be working Great. At least for now...
<knock on wood>
The Memory usage seems slightly higher than usual. So, I am going to create a brand new workspace, and import my settings. And see how it goes...
I figure that since this was a service pack, that I could use my 2-month old workspace with no problem. On new version, I always like to create a new workspace.
If it goes haywire this time, I will open a PMR.
Thanks!

Edmund I will open a PMR. What details do you want me to send in for this one? I am experiencing high memory usage at this moment but I do not know what exactly caused it but it was related in timing to filtering source on date changes and keying in a ill formatted date string.
At this time my eclipse error log is sparse. But for some reason I just received several errors relating to the help server for the RPGUnit plugin.

Hi John,
I am very sorry to hear about your experience with the performance of the new release. We are looking into this issue and we would like to get a solution out as soon as possible. If someone would kindly open a PMR, we
could then get a testfix out for this memory leak issue. There is a lot
of good in this release and we want to turn this around quickly so everyone can enjoy its benefits.
Help Systems has been working closely with IBM and this is the third release since our partnership began last June. I can attest that Help Systems has done a great job in getting up to speed with not only the technical aspects of the product but with the philosophy of understanding and responding to our customers needs. I have been impressed with their attitude and skill level. So I assure you that this particular memory leak will be addressed as soon as we can and Help Systems has already taken a major initiative in analyzing and providing solutions.
Please be patient and we will all benefit as we get to the other side of this challenge.
Sincerely,
|

Keep going crazy on me. I head back to V9.6.01. Keep making out my CPU and memory. Was this the first release that help systems did ?

Justin,
Just in case you do not know, **free, means Absolute NO Punch-card specs at all. Hence the 100% Free-format.
O-Specs are a punch-card spec, hence not allowed. <grin>
But, that also blocks GOTO/CABXX/MOVE/MOVEA/etc... too!
**free is 100% Freedom from 19th Century Punch-Cards! It is 100% FREEDOM!
Let it RING through the RPG-World! <Big Smile>
I wrote a program to move the Punch-card Sequence numbers to right Hand Comments.
So, my cold code might have looked like this:
C007 x +=1 ;
After my conversion:
X += 1; // C007
C007 is a sample of change code tag. Which is a holdover from punch-cards...
My boss is a Microsoft programmer, and so are all my teammates. They keep asking me why do you marked code? Don't you have a previous version to compare to for changes? Yes, we have Turnover, which has archive and source comparison. But, it is still company policy to mark changed lines of code.
Oh well, the IBM i world is slow to change. Even through **free has been out for over 4-years. Which is a LONG time in computer years...
No wonder why the call the IBM i the "Univac Punch-card 400"...
<disappointment> Very bad if you are still coding like it is System-36 from last Century :( So, although we have no system-36 code, but it is very hard to take the Punch-Card mentality out of the Punch-Card lovers. Oh well...

The latest RPG supported O-specs until **FREE, unlike some other operations that were never supported even in /free.

Last Century O-Specs works on my old non-updates RPGLE code!
