Had occasion today to turn off "Update the outline view when text is typed
in the editor".

I noticed that I can no longer sort the outline; I cannot get to the
preferences easily because the little drop-down triangle no longer works; I
can't collapse all the nodes either.

Not sure why any of that would depend on HOW or WHEN the data gets into the
outline.

Is there another setting I am missing to turn those features back on?
Whent he "auto-update" is turned off, is anyone else missing those buttons
up there?
