Hi Vern, copying workspaces can still work as others have testified.

The option to export/import your RDi configuration (File->Export->Rational
Developer for i->Configuration Files) will export a zip that has all of
your connections/filters/preferences/snippets/templates etc. You can then
import this or share it with a colleague.
The Configuration Files for Automatic Distribution, allows you to put this
in the IFS and whoever connects to that system will automatically be
prompted to import it. A great way to standardize templates and filters
etc. for your shop, by making it easy.
This video should explain it all

Matt

One thing that seems different about VS and RDi - VS is not built over a
platform (Eclipse) that itself drives the kind of environment/package
you are working in - the builders of Eclipse, in their wisdom, don't
seem to have anything to do a true conversion from one version to another.

Hence, we have to do what is really an install of RDi again, to use the
new Eclipse framework.

I guess my main concern is that I might have fairly large directory
trees left behind for each earlier RDI version I've had installed. And
export/import functionality has kind of escaped me as to how best to use
it.

Oh, well! I don't develop in VS anymore, so the question is moot, at
least for me.

Cheers
Vern

Agreed. I have to use DBeaver as IBM only provides the notepad of SQL

Navigator had. So basically now I tab through DBeaver, IBM I Navigator, and
ACS to get tasks complete. Very poor user experience.

I've never had to reinstall visual studio. Granted I'm running the latest
and greatest and have a minimal amount of addon plugins from their
extensive online addon repository. Addon plugins can definitely cause
Visual Studio issues. For instance I once had the markdown viewer from Mads
Kristensen installed, but occasionally it would cause visual studio to
crash when you were viewing a markdown file. Uninstalled plugin and no more
issues. Didn't have to reinstall visual studio. But figuring out what addon
is causing the problem, that can be tricky sometimes.

Well, my Microsoft co-workers now have problems with visual studio all
the time. And they have to reload, which take them 1.5 hours.

On the extremely rare instance that I have to reload RDI, it take me
20-minutes or under! Awesome!

But, comparing MS SQL Server VS IBM Data Studio, Microsoft wins all
around...

What to retrieve the sql source? Right-click and retrieve....

Want to see the field name, code-assist is EXCELLENT...

What a quick sql script for the top 100, once again Microsoft wins...

Microsoft is a better User-Experience for develop SQL..
