For the time being, I'd like to see if I can just get Installation Manager
up to speed with the files I got from FC yesterday, while SysAdmin works
the RDi piece.
(but I'll keep your technique in mind if I fail here)

Oh, after the Trial is installed, we of course apply our legal license
using the Jar file... <grin> And we pay for support too! Also entitles
us to the latest updates! A must have in my opinion for our rapidly
changing I.T. world with Technology Refreshes.

Okay, I am not an RDI Install Expert, but I will share with you how we
do it...

We download the trial license, and install that one.

Since we have 64-bit Windows 10 PC, we use this install path:

..\Downloads\RDI_V9.5_CORE_PI_1_EVAL_EMG 2016-09-
09\disk1\InstallerImage_win32_win32_x86_64

Then I select the "User-Install" file: --> userinst.exe

Then afterwards, we apply our license...

Just hope this might be slightly helpful to you...

This is an OLD install image. I use the Update feature inside of RDI to
update to the latest/greatest, which should be RDi 9.5.1.2

I do know you need the latest IBM Install Manager, as you already
mentioned.

PS. The User-Installs it in your PERSONAL folder, so you do NOT run
into authority issues. Windows 10 does not let you update folders in
the "Program..." folders.
I am not a windows expert, but since I have been using the "user-
Install" that has gotten rid of a lot of windows authority issues for
us...

My RDi was trashed and needs to be replaced. The remnants have been
uninstallled from my PC (Win Vista Business). The SysAdmin is getting
a new copy of RDi 9.5.? downloaded and unpacked now. My Installation
Manager v1.7.3 needs to be upgraded, so I got v1.8.7 from Fix Central,
and have unzipped to a folder on my PC.
I tried to define a repository specifying that folder
(C:\Temp\Installs\IBM Installation Manager v1.8.7\) as the repository,
but could not. Add Repository Error said that's not a repository -
it's an install package. It also says to exit Installation Manager and
execute the install from the Installation Package.

I looked through all the files and folders in that "Installation
Package", but do not see any that I can "execute".
There is a readme.html in the documentation\en folder that says to
refer to the "...installation guide for Installation Manager".
While that instruction did not have a link, I found what appeared to be
applicable instructions in the KnowlegeCenter, and proceeded to the "To
install Installation Manager" part of "Installing or updating
Installation Manager silently by using the installer".

I'm now at

I skipped ahead to steps 4, 5, and 6, but in Step 6 (where I use the
"installc.exe -log [my log file] -acceptLicense" command), I'm told
that "'installc.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external
command, operable program, or batch file."

Am I in the wrong rabbit hole again?
