Gerald, I cannot offer a specific solution to your particular problem. However, I installed the latest Beta (b007) over the weekend with no issues at all.

I have always downloaded the ZIP file, expanded and installed from the local directory. Never had a problem Checking Updates or Installing New Software with this approach. (I prefer the flexibility and independence that a local repository gives, especially when installing on multiple devices or at different sites.)
