Hi Thomas

I think that JCRHFD would be the one to convert the H, F, and D specs - there are some utilities to get things into RPG4 syntax that user might need to do first - making them work on selections might be messy!

Thanks for considering this.

That should be possible:

a) Get all or selected source lines from the LPEX editor.
b) Write the source lines to a temporary member.
c) Run Carigs utility over that member.
d) Read the member.
e) Replace the selected source lines with the lines from the member.

What utility are you guys talk about: JCRHFD or JCRHFD or something else?

Thomas.

Yep - I didn't go far when replying to Thomas' post, but I wonder if he
could run something like Craig's stuff over what is selected and return
it in an edit window - not knowing any better, I can always ask for
stuff, right?

Yes - but if you look at the rest of what I said, the thing that makes
Linoma better is its ability to convert just selected portions of code
within the editor. That requires a lot deeper level of integration
than that provided by a user option, or indeed the minimal integration
that Arcad have,

Hi John,

Shouldn't it be possible to call Craigs utilities with a user defined

And does a pretty poor job of it too.

IBM will not do the conversion. It has been their policy since way
back when RPG IV was first introduced to only do the absolute basics
in conversion and leave it to the tools market to do the real thing.

Linoma's tool is great - I've been using it for years. Arcad's is
good too - my only quibble is that you can't simply highlight a block
of code in the editor as you can with Linoma. You have to convert a
whole program. On the plus side, it can get rid of GOTOs and other
ugliness because it has some re-engineering capabilities that Linoma
do not have.

Craig Rutledge's tools do the conversion but there's no direct
support in RDi - I keep hoping the iSphere crew will add it to their
collection.

That option is still there. But that only converts the C-specs.

RDi 9.0 Select(highlight) the code you wish to convert. Right click.
2nd item on the context menu.

Can't believe they removed that in newer versions?

Can RDi (Version: 9.5.1.0) convert code from fixed format or /free

Thanks.
