So, if you specify a fixed-space font then you will get something

By the way... Yes, Lucinda Sans Typewriter is supposed to be a
fixed-space font, too. However, though I didn't try that font myself, I
did try what I specified above and it printed in fixed-space format. My
screen.font is Consolas-regular-12 so it is not as if it picked up
anything from my screen.font setting. YMMV
