From what I've seen, RDI always restores the last session that was active when it was restarted or closed normally.

So based on that, you should be able to setup the "Expand to" you desire then run a "Restart" or close and reopen RDi. Thus making the last restart contain your desired config.

I don't know of any way to have that always happen through the normal configuration/preferences.

If you could identify the specific config files responsible for perspective, then you could always restore a backup of them before you open RDi each day.
I think that information is stored in the workbench.xmi file contained in the ".metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.e4.workbench\" folder.

However, there may be related data stored in other files and restoring just this file could potentially corrupt your workspace.

I have personally not had any issue saving and restoring this file when I need to "reset" my workbench setup back to a personal default.
