Mark,

Okay, I would like to share the many ways I use Debug with RDI 9.1.1.1.

1.) DEBUG JOB (*/*/MyJobName): Set up debug-job with only the job-name, and the job User/Number are "*".
Set once, and re-use whenever I need them!

2.) Debug 52520 Session: (*/*CURRENT/QPADEVxx) I put in my 5250 job, Station name, user is *CURRENT and job is "*".
Whatever is running on my session, I debug it!

3.) Just add a Service Entry point for my Program. NO matter how it starts, it pop-up in Debug!
Very Cool! Awesome! I love this, and use it the most often!!!
Note: I have to specify the following for this to work:
1.) System (Test, QA, Production, Client-Box, etc...)
2.) Library/Program
3.) User, usually myself, which is the default.
4.) MODULE: *ALL, is what I usually select. "Sort of" wish that this would load *ALL by default, like my user-profile.
No biggie! I can type it in, or select from the drop down combo-box.

Note-2: When recompiling my programs, I have to ""Refresh Service Entry Points" to get the SEP to work again. Very nice.

The power of RDI Debug is AWESOME! I let RDI do the debugging for me! <Big Grin> Faster & more reliable Results! I edit my code as I debug.

PS. Finally note. It is a good idea, to every often to clear all monitors/break points. I have made the mistake of leaving them out there for 3-months or more. And my RDI debug gets bogged down over time. Clearing them out once every couple of weeks works GREAT for me!

Yes, that is true, but it is specific for a given program. It would be nice if a given debug profile could be used to debug any program; kind of like a job description. Right click on the program, choose debug as batch, and then the debug profile. Not sure how you would handle parameters in this situation though, maybe yet another dialog.

Brian,
After you have prompted once and launched a debug, you have created a named "launch configuration". If you go up to the "Debug" icon in the tool bar and click on the divot on the right of it, it will drop down a menu of all the launch configurations you have created. Pick the one you want and it will debug with the same configuration.

Edmund

From RSE, I right click on a *PGM object and select Debug As > Batch.
I see there is a Debug (Prompt) > Batch sequence that allows me to modify the SBMJOB command on the How To Start tab.
That's nice, but it would be better if I didn't have to prompt and modify every time.
