Hi Ken,
I feel your pain. I've started using Workspace Mechanic and I like it
already. https://code.google.com/a/eclipselabs.org/p/workspacemechanic/

Before I change any settings, I right click the green checkbox in the
lower right. Preference Recorder > Start. Then I make my preference
changes. Right click, Preference Recorder > Stop and you get a dialogue
that allows you to save a script that will tell Workspace Mechanic how
to adjust the preferences you just hit.

When you start a new workspace, Mechanic will see that those changes
aren't set and will prompt you to run the scripts; say yes and voilà, it
changes them to the way you had them set. You can edit the scripts by
hand if you want (they are XML).
