To elucidate further - locks are held by jobs - when we first open a member in RDi, the host server job holds the lock.

When we shut down RDi, that lock is released, because the job is ended (basically).

So if we left the member open in RDi, changes can be done in SEU. I think that's why we see these dialog boxes with options to replace remote member or save to a different one.

I don't know if there is anywhere a clear presentation of how this all works. This kind of thing needs to be in the help, but I've not found everything I'd like about HOW the interface works.

Vern

Awww. Shame.

Using the remote side of RDi editing does lock the files as described (usually :)), but I thought you were hinting at recording the changes you've made so that you can go back to several saves ago if you've made a mistake or lost a source change due to the error described earlier in the thread.

Then svn isn't an answer for you.

But isn't RDi used remotely already locking members when you open one?

If you are able to use SVN to record all of your own changes to remote IBM i source members as you edit them then I think I'd be interested in hearing details of how you've set it up. However, if you can only do it if you exclusively use the iProjects perspective within RDi (i.e. disconnected source - requiring an extra step or two to put the source back on the iSeries) then I am no longer interested as that requires that everyone in your development team uses RDi + SVN.
