Considering that I'm a contractor here at Philips, and my IBM ID is linked to my personal email, I'm a bit hesitant to link it to the serial number of the Philips machine. Knowing IBM, I can imagine that unlinking it later, will not be a walk in the park.

Yeah, you need to link your ID to your IBM i serial number.
It's the way the IBM web sites are going. Indeed, it's the way all web sites are going. You need to log in so they can track your activity.
