Hi Jim,

That is odd. I have RDI 9.0 installed from the DeveloperWorks trial site
then updated with 9.0.1 downloaded from Fix Central so it should be the
same as what you have. However I do also have RDz and RBD 9.0.1 but I
would expect them to use the same level of the help system as RDI.

The local help would not connect probably because it is not configured to
run by default so that part of the result is not unexpected. You may wish
to go into the help preferences at Help > Content and make sure that RDI
remote help is enabled and pointing to "
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/iadthelp/v9"; and that local help is
disabled. This may require restarting RDI.

If you try a new workspace what is the outcome in that case? If it still
fails then you may wish to restore the plugin settings in your user
directory

Mike

Mike,

I tried this and when restarting RDi was prompted that "Help was not
installed" and presented two options, work without help and use the local
help updater. I tried the local help updater, and received a message that
it could not connect.

The only difference is one in the path name of the first path. You have a
number 2139427097 there and my install shows 2106402103.

Does that make a difference?

Jim

For anyone still concerned ...

I have a work-around for this issue.

Warning: If you have added infocenters to your help preferences other
than the ones that are automatically added then you will have to add
them
again after following this work-around for this issue in RDI 9.0.1.

Prep: close any running instances of RDI 9

First Step: Rename the directory
C:\Users\<your-userid>\.eclipse\org.eclipse.platform_4.2.0_2139427097
\configuration\com.ibm.ut.help.common\
to

C:\Users\<your-userid>\.eclipse\org.eclipse.platform_4.2.0_2139427097\configuration\com.ibm.ut.help.common-original

Second Step: Rename the directory

<workspace>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings\org.eclipse.help.base.prefs
to

<workspace>\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings\org.eclipse.help.base.prefs-original
(or just create a new workspace)

Complete: restart RDI 9.0.1 and again enjoy your F1 help goodness!

If any of the above is unclear or if it does not resolve the RDI 9.0.1
F1
help issue for you please let us know.

All the best, Mike

We are trying to fix this problem that was recently reported by 2 people
so
far on this list.
We are wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? Has anyone
experienced this on previous releases?

BTW, a cool thing in 9.0.1 is that F1 on opcodes in free form, now gives
you specific help for that op code.
Yes Jon, I was thinking of you when we fixed that. :-) Merry Christmas
to
you.
More goodness to come in that area.
