Hey, pretty cool idea!
Just now "slid up" from 10 to 21 point font . . .
Do not get the improvement I expected.

Here is what I think: the "drag" icon seems to appear
at the point >between< the "blocks" on the top and
bottom of a selected field. There seem always to
be three, and with a one-character field, these "blocks"
are always closely spaced. Sliding to a larger font
also increases the size of the "blocks" used to
"highlight" selected fields . . .

Maybe try zooming in on the designer - there's a slider on the lower right, I think, that controls that. Then those fields would be bigger - I know that'd help me, too.
