I'm using v8.5 and when I open a spooled file in the "spooled files" subsystem (which sounds just like you are doing) I get a viewer pop up with a text and an image pane. The text pane is in the consolas font for me (can't see a preference to change for that) but one thing I noticed was that I could right-click in the text pane of the spooled file viewer and "set font" is available.
The softlanding version of a spooled file viewer does similar, but I can't see a "set font" option anywhere. (In my case it is displaying in a fixed width font, anyway.)
