BTW, you probably have this debugger on your IBM i already - check out that manual. Or it can be found in the JTopen or Toolbox download.

And it takes very little time to get it going, as I recall.

Y'all - there is another graphical debugger that works just like the one

This is developed by a different group from the Rational team, so far as
I know. It's just not integrated with RDP. Still, it might be a good
interim tool when there are issues with RDP's debugger. I used it a
while ago, when I just couldn't seem to get WDSC's debugger to work.
Probably mea culpa, but I didn't have time to fight with the thing then.

Mark,

I installed the missing PTF for RDP 8.5, and still had issues with Debug....

Ever since I rolled back to RDP 8.0, no more debug issues for me....
Except for the refresh of Monitor view. I just click on a different view, and then back on the Monitor view. This forces a refresh/Repaint. Not a biggie, and only happens occasionally on RDP 8.0. But, at least it works!

Maybe after service pack III, then they might resolve the debug issues on RDP 8.5.1.
Or you could believe my old mentor, who told me "Real Programmer don't Debug"...
<LOL> He was trying to get me understand code better, about 23 years ago... <smirk>

I have wasted too much time trying to work with RDP 8.5 debug issues. Not worth my time.

Unless you have time to burn, I suggest you save your sanity, and roll back to RDP 8.0.3.

Debug is supposed to SAVE your time, not waste time.

Hi,

I have just tried using the SEP debug for the first time since upgrading to 8.5 and I have been having several issues with it. My program is a SQLCBLLE with a number of large internal tables (in case this has anything to do with it). When trying to find out the contents of fields I have received CPF7E10 messages - Internal error occurred in two different ways. Firstly, when trying to use the variables view and then when trying to add a table to the monitors view.

It does seem to me that this upgrade, on the debug side of things, is a bit of a backwards step.

As what I'm working on is urgent I'm going to have to go back to my previous release.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Installing Rational Developer for i SOA Constructors

Hi,

I am attempting to install the V8.5 Rational Developer for I SOA product.
This requires the Rational Business Developer to be installed first. I downloaded the 60 day trial while the contracts get processed to get a head start. I get all the way through the install process using the IBM Installation Manager until it wants DISK1. It cannot seem to locate the
DISK1 sub folder.

I am on Windows XP Pro (I had previously installed the V7.5 of RDi and uninstalled it on that machine)

IBM Installation Manager is at v1.6.1

I downloaded 10 "zip" files from the IBM download manager and unzipped them.
RBD (3), RDPOWER (1), HATS (1) & WAS_LITE (5)

I used the "Launchpad.exe" to start the install process.

I deselected all the WAS options - message that the disk could not found, even though they were downloaded and unzipped

I continued through the set up options and included Struts Tools as directed in the Quick Start Instructions

After pressing the "Install" button, I get a prompt for DISK1. The Installer does not find the next directory that contains DISK1.

My download directory structures looks like this:

C:\DownloadDirecctor

RBD_85_Trial_Part1

RBD_SETUP

Ad

InstallerImage_linux_gtk_x86

RBD_85_Trial_Part2

RBD

Disk1

RBD_85_Trial_Part3

RBD

Disk2

RD_Power_8.5_EVALUATION_EIMAGE

.

.

.

Any ideas? The DISK1 does not have a disktag file in it. DISK2 does.

My previous installs were from CD media. The Quick Start Installation Instructions did not provide much help.
