Jon,
I doubt that everyone is going to start using a cloud instance tomorrow for
their RD Power workload but it is another option being made available which
could help some customers.
The IBM SmartCloud Enterprise allows you to create virtual machine
instances. You can select the configuration (# cpu, ram, hard drive) and
you are billed accordingly by usage. i.e. no capital expenditure, reduced
operating expenses, very flexible.
My post was about the new option for RD Power 8.5.1 on the IBM SmartCloud
Enterprise. In 1/2 hour, you can have a VM with the product ready to run.
There are other product images (RAD/RDz/etc) available as well as just
images with only the base operating system. So, it can be used for
development and test purposes.
For the RD Power image, it uses Red Hat 6 as the base operating system.
You use VNC to get to the instance. The workspace would be on the virtual
machine but you can transfer data back and forth. The RD Power image comes
with Rational Team Concert client installed as well. So, if you use RTC,
you start the product, define your RTC repository connection, and start
working.

On the RD Power Downloads page, there is now a 'Cloud' tab.

With IBM SmartCloud Enterprise, you can have a virtual machine
provisioned
with RD Power 8.5.1 already installed for you.
Eric - maybe I'm being dense but I have visited those sites and still have
absolutely no idea why I care.
Suppose I use your virtual machine with RDp - what good does it do me? I
use it via a browser? Where is my workspace? etc. etc. Right now it just
looks like a solution in search of a problem.
