I'm not Mark, but I want to answer. ;)

I'd want the filter to work over everything in the outline.

So if I typed, in the filter: error
I would get back:
Procedure: processError
Variable: rtnError (multiple results, one for each procedure that had the variable defined)
Data Structure: ds_ApiError

And so on.

Mark, about your filter idea.
I assume that you would only want to filter the list of fields by field type and that this filter should not apply to the children of external record formats, data structures, procedure interfaces etc.
If you had such a filter, so that you could optionally subset the children of the Fields heading to only those of a certain data type such as Indicator, would you still want named indicators under the Indicators heading? Because now you could easily find them under Fields as well.

Karla mentioned that the reason why she wants to keep Named Indicators under Indicators was because it made them easy to find.

Edmund,

Can we have them under both?? An additional feature would be separate / filter by *any* type of variable.

We would like to know if there is a strong preference to move Named
indicators under the Fields heading so that all fields can be found in
one place and only predefined indicator usage being shown under the
Indicators heading.
On the other hand would anyone be upset about not finding the Named
indicators under the Indicators heading any more?

IBM is listening.
