Your desktop OS Java installation should have NO EFFECT whatsoever on the IBM Rational products, as the JVM for each product is contained in the SDPShared folder for a package group. IBM distributes their JVM updates through Installation Manager.
If "running into issues" has to do with outline view, then another thread earlier today explained how to switch back to outline "Classic".

Shortly after installing RDp version 8.5 I got a pop-up advising me that a new version of Java was available and (maybe) foolishly accepted the installation. As I began to use 8.5 I was running into issues and didn't know if was the new version of RDp or the new version of Java, so I have reverted to using 8.0.3 which seems to be unaffected. As a general rule, should we install the new versions of Java when they become available? If we need to wait for RDp to catch up, how do we know when they have?
